Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform to criticize recent Republican actions related to federal programs and government operations.
On November 4, 2025, Sykes posted: “Feeding hungry Americans should not be a bargaining chip, but that’s exactly what the administration is doing by deciding not to fully fund SNAP. Republicans must come to the table to negotiate to end this shutdown.”
The following day, on November 5, she stated: “Republicans already took Medicaid away from tens of millions of Americans, and now they’re trying to strip healthcare away from 4 million more by not extending the Affordable Care Act Premium Tax Credits.”
Later that evening, Sykes added: “Democrats are fighting for affordable healthcare and lower costs. Republicans shut down the federal government instead of working across the aisle for the American people. Rep. Sykes works for you. Republicans are working for billionaires.”
Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th District in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Tim Ryan. She previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022 and was born in Akron, Ohio in 1986. She holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
