Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, marked a milestone for the NAACP and addressed key issues including housing affordability and government accountability in a series of posts on February 12, 2026.
In her first post, Sykes recognized the long-standing work of volunteers and leaders associated with the NAACP. In another message posted on February 12, she emphasized public concerns about fairness and ethics in government: “People are tired of feeling like the rules are different for those at the top.
They want accountability that actually means something and they want ethics laws that apply to everyone, no matter their title or party.”
Sykes has served as a U.S. Representative since 2023 after replacing Tim Ryan in Ohio’s 13th congressional district. Before joining Congress, she was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 through 2022. Born in Akron in 1986, Sykes continues to reside there at age 37 and holds degrees from Kent State University (BA) and a JD from the University of Florida.
