Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a U.S. Congress member representing Ohio’s 13th district since 2023, has been vocal on several key issues through her social media presence. Her recent tweets highlight significant legislative and healthcare concerns.

On July 8, Rep. Sykes emphasized the importance of passing the RAIL Act by stating that “Congress must pass the RAIL Act.” She highlighted that this bipartisan legislation could have prevented incidents like the controlled burn resulting from the East Palestine train derailment, thereby protecting community health and safety.

Later that day, she addressed healthcare access in Ohio with a focus on Planned Parenthood. She tweeted that “Planned Parenthood has provided essential reproductive health care services to generations of Ohioans, 40% of whom rely on Medicaid.” She warned against prohibiting Planned Parenthood from accepting Medicaid as it would impact thousands of women in Ohio who may lose access to crucial health screenings and cancer services.

On July 9, Rep. Sykes invited constituents to join her for an Instagram Live session at 12:30 p.m., titled “the WTF Show.” In her tweet, she planned to discuss why “the Republicans’ reconciliation bill is a bad deal for #OH13 and the rest of the country.”

Emilia Sykes was born in Akron, Ohio in 1986 and continues to reside there. With an educational background including a BA from Kent State University and a JD from the University of Florida, she served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 until assuming her current role in Congress after replacing Tim Ryan.
