Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on social media between March 26 and March 28, 2026, highlighting achievements and statements related to her district and national policy.
On March 26, Sykes recognized astronaut Judith Resnik’s contributions, writing: “Judith Resnik, born in Akron, broke barriers as a NASA astronaut and trailblazer in space exploration. She became the fourth woman to travel to space, and the first Jewish woman to do so, logging an incredible 145 hours in orbit. Her life was tragically cut short in the Space”.
The following day, March 27, Sykes announced new federal funding for community projects: “I secured more than $12.5 million in Community Project Funding for 15 projects across OH-13, including $1.2 million for the Rosemont Preserve Restoration Project. This investment will restore the preserve, enhance natural spaces, and provide lasting benefits for residents in”.
On March 28, Sykes commented on legislative developments regarding homeland security funding: “Rep. Sykes released the following statement after voting against House Republicans’ latest proposal and criticizing their rejection of a bipartisan Senate agreement to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).”
Sykes has served as U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 13th District since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, Sykes holds degrees from Kent State University (BA) and the University of Florida (JD).
