U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes, who serves Ohio’s 13th district in Congress, recently used her social media platform to highlight ongoing issues of justice for victims of Jeffrey Epstein and to recognize the contributions of the NAACP both nationally and locally.
On February 11, 2026, Rep. Sykes posted: “A system that protects perpetrators and exposes victims is not a just one. Rep. Sykes will not stop fighting until the victims of Jeffrey Epstein get the justice they deserve.”
The following day, she commemorated the anniversary of a prominent civil rights organization with two posts. On February 12, 2026, she wrote: “Today we celebrate the 117th anniversary of the NAACP, an organization that has been at the forefront of the fight for civil rights, racial equity, and social justice since 1909. From dismantling segregation to expanding voting rights and advocating for equal opportunity, the”.
In another post on February 12, she highlighted local efforts: “Locally, we proudly recognize the Akron NAACP, an all-volunteer branch that has been serving the community for more than a century. Through advocacy, education, and action, the Akron branch continues to confront discrimination, promote equity in education and employment, empower”.
Rep. Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th district in Congress since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023; prior to her current role she served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, Sykes holds degrees from Kent State University (BA) and earned her JD from the University of Florida.
The NAACP was founded in 1909 and is recognized as one of America’s oldest civil rights organizations dedicated to eliminating race-based discrimination through legal challenges and advocacy efforts across various sectors.
