Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district, posted a series of messages on her social media accounts between March 19 and March 20, 2026, highlighting local celebrations and achievements in her constituency.
On March 19, Sykes extended greetings to those observing Eid al-Fitr, stating, “Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating in #OH13! Wishing you and your loved ones many blessings on this holy day.”
Later that evening, she recognized the centennial anniversary of the Akron Urban League by writing, “Happy 100 years to the Akron Urban League! Earlier this year, I introduced House Resolution 1000 to commemorate this important milestone and all of the work it took to get here. Thank you to the Akron Urban League staff, past and present, who have made a meaningful, lasting”.
On March 20, Sykes congratulated a local sports team: “Congratulations to the Hoban Knights girls basketball team for winning the state championship and for being named this week’s #OH13 Champions of the Week! This team’s perseverance and dedication is truly admirable.”
Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th district in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Tim Ryan. She previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there, Sykes holds a BA from Kent State University and a JD from the University of Florida.
