U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on February 20, 2026, addressing issues related to cost reduction, legislative priorities, and rail safety.
In a post published at 00:17 UTC, Sykes stated: “I’m focused on lowering costs for YOU. House Republicans only seem to be interested in lowering costs for their billionaire buddies.”
Later that day at 22:05 UTC, she commented on a recent decision affecting trade policy: “This decision is a big win for Ohio families and for the Constitution. No more trade wars through executive shortcuts. I will continue to work across the aisle to lower costs, strengthen supply chains, and protect the jobs that power Northeast Ohio. Congress, not any one”
At 23:02 UTC on the same day, Sykes addressed concerns about rail safety legislation following incidents impacting American cities such as East Palestine: “Not good enough. Rail safety legislation is the only way to ensure this doesn’t happen to another America city. Instead of treating this like the cost of doing business do what the people of East Palestine have asked of us and what you promised to do.”
Sykes has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Tim Ryan and previously represented her community in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. She was born in Akron in 1986 and continues to reside there. Her educational background includes a BA from Kent State University and a JD from the University of Florida.
