Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to address concerns about rising living costs and legislative efforts related to data protection and housing.
On March 11, 2026, Sykes posted about local economic challenges: “Everyday I hear from our community that the cost of living is too high, and rising housing costs are a big reason why. I’m proud to have convened housing leaders and elected officials from #OH13 to discuss how we can make meaningful progress towards affordable housing for https://t.co/E7Kox3NYVd”.
Later that day, she criticized national policy impacts on state residents: “Ohioans are already facing the reality of higher costs, and the Trump administration has only made matters worse. https://t.co/RHkDjDnFs3” (March 11, 2026).
On March 12, 2026, Sykes highlighted her legislative priorities regarding privacy: “I’m an original cosponsor of the Taxpayer Data Protection Act because Congress should hold the Trump Administration accountable and prevent unvetted, unqualified employees from rifling through your private data.
Congress must pass this legislation because this cannot keep”.
Sykes has served as U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 13th District since 2023 after succeeding Tim Ryan. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986, Sykes holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
