Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district, addressed several issues affecting her constituents in a series of posts on social media between November 3 and November 4, 2025.
On November 3, Rep. Sykes commented on a recent violent incident in her state: “Rep. Sykes released a statement on the mass shooting that occurred on November 2 in Bath Township.” This post came one day after the reported event.
Later that same day, she turned to economic concerns and healthcare costs, stating: “Ohioans don’t have another $720 laying around to pay for healthcare because Republicans refuse to work across the aisle on policies that help hardworking Americans. Rep. Sykes knows the cost of living, especially the host of healthcare, is too high, and she will keep working” (November 3).
On Election Day, November 4, Rep. Sykes encouraged civic participation by reminding residents about voting hours and resources: “Today is Election Day! Be sure to make your voice heard in this local election and get out to vote. Polls are open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Find your precinct at https://t.co/p5S41zxsbs.”
Rep. Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th district since replacing Tim Ryan in Congress in 2023. Prior to her current role, she served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 through 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, Sykes holds degrees from Kent State University (BA) and the University of Florida (JD).
